    • 1). Ventilate the area by opening doors and windows. Wear rubber gloves, a respirator and safety goggles to protect yourself from the paint stripper.

    • 2). Pour the methyl hydrate carefully into a small, plastic paint tray. Dip the paintbrush bristles in the paint stripper.

    • 3). Apply the methyl hydrate to the unwanted paint by brushing it on in the same manner as you would if painting. Apply the paint stripper thickly over the paint.

    • 4). Let the methyl hydrate sit on the paint for the recommended amount of time. Since each brand of paint stripper has its own specific time, refer to the instructions printed on the label for more information. Typically, the average time frame is 20 to 30 minutes.

    • 5). Scrape the softened paint off the surface with a paint scraper. Wipe the paint scraper clean with paper towels after each pass. Continue in this manner until you have removed the paint.

    • 6). Neutralize the surface by wiping it with a rag dampened with mineral spirits. Rinse the surface clean with cool water and dry with a lint-free towel.
