- 1). Empty your soda bottle and discard the cap. Clean the bottle and allow it to dry completely.
- 2). Cut the top third of the bottle off with a utility knife.
- 3). Invert the top third of the bottle so it resembles a funnel. Place it inside the bottom section.
- 4). Mix the sugar and water together and pour the mixture into the bottle through the funnel portion. Make sure the liquid is at least an inch below the inverted mouth of the bottle to allow the bees to get in.
- 5). Use a hole punch to makes two holes, one on either side of the bottle, near the top. Punch the holes through both the upper edge of the bottom section of the bottle and the inverted top.
- 6). Tie a piece of string through the holes to create a handle. Hang the bottle near where you are experiencing the carpenter bee problem.
- 7). Add additional sugar mixture as needed.
