Home Remedies for Polishing Stainless Steel
- The kitchen is one location in the house where stainless steel is often present. Many homeowners have stainless-steel kitchen appliances such as refrigerators, stoves, microwaves and dishwashers. Stainless-steel appliances, as well as pots and pans, require maintenance to keep them looking new and vibrant. There are many home remedies that will polish stainless steel and keep it looking like new.
- Stainless steel can be cleaned and polished using mild soap. You may use dish soap and apply the soap and water using a soft cloth or a sponge.
Another alternative is to mix one cup of vinegar with two cups of water. Use this as a cleaning and polishing solution for your appliances. Stainless-steel pans should also be taken care of.
To remove streaks brought about by repeated washings, apply club soda and use it as a polisher to restore the vibrancy of the pans. Simply pour some club soda onto a piece of cloth and buff the surface of the pans with it. Follow up with a dry cloth to bring out the shine. - Baking soda is also an effective cleaning and polishing agent for stainless steel. Its light abrasive properties help release dirt and bring out the shine. Simply mix baking soda with liquid dish soap to create a cake-frosting-like consistency. Buff the appliances using a soft rag to create shine.
The acidity of lemon also helps to clean and buff stainless-steel pans. Cut a lemon and rub it on the surface of the pan. Use a soft rag to buff the pans. The lemon juice works as an effective stain remover as well.
Baby oil and olive oil are also natural polishers for stainless steel. Apply a small amount of the oil on a clean and soft cloth and gently rub it against the surface of an appliance or pan. Use a separate dry cloth to shine the surfaces. - To create an alternative cleaning solution, you can also use rubbing alcohol to clean stainless steel. Pour a few drops of rubbing alcohol on a microfiber pad and rub it along the grain of your appliance.
To create a rinse for stainless steel, you can also mix two teaspoons of cornstarch with one cup of warm water. Whisk the mixture together until the cornstarch is completely dissolved. Use a microfiber pad to wipe the mixture onto the stainless-steel surfaces, along the grain. Dry the surfaces using a clean cloth.
