How to Get a Slimy Green Pool Clean
- 1). Balance the pH in your pool. It is important to test the water and adjust the pH accordingly.
- 2). Check your filter and make sure it's working. Turn it on and let it run. Backwash as needed.
- 3). Shock the pool with a commercial shock solution of calcium hypochlorite. Mix 1 pound per 10,000 gallons of water in the pool in a 5-gallon bucket filled with water. The powder must be mixed before use to protect pool liners from getting bleached.
- 4). Scrub the walls and floor of the pool with a scrub brush once the pool becomes a cloudy blue/gray color. On plaster pools use a steel bristled brush and a brush with nylon bristles on vinyl pools. Get as much of the algae loose as possible.
- 5). Skim the pool water for all of the debris that you can. Chunks and pieces of the debris that are loose will be simple to skim.
- 6). Remove the filter according to the manufacturer's instructions and clean it thoroughly. You can usually wash it with liquid soap and water and a scrub brush. Rinse it thoroughly before replacing it.
- 7). Check the chlorine level of the pool and once it is below 5 parts per million (ppm), add an algaecide according to the manufacturer's instructions. At this point, you may need to scrub the pool again.
- 8). Vacuum the pool with a pool vacuum to remove any fine debris. Retest the pool and balance the water as necessary.
