How Do I Clean a Barbecue Grill Grate?
- 1). Close the barbecue's hood, and allow the grates to reheat for approximately 15 minutes after removing food from the grill. If you have a gas grill, turn it on the highest heat setting immediately after removing food. The high heat will burn bits of food and sauces off the metal.
- 2). Open the hood, and turn off the heat, if cleaning a gas grill. Brush the grates with a brass wire brush until all the food residue is removed. Put on heat-safe gloves or use tongs to flip the grate over and brush the other side.
- 3). Soak the grates in warm, soapy water occasionally to remove built-up residue or sticky messes. Place an old towel in the bottom of your sink or bathtub to protect the surface. Fill the sink or tub with hot water, and add a small amount of grease-cutting dish soap. Allow the grates to soak 15 minutes, or longer if needed. Scrub the grates with a brass brush. Rinse and dry them thoroughly before placing them back on the grill.
