Rotary Dryer Drum Uses

A broken-down dryer is not very useful by itself. Because of its weight, it may sit in the basement collecting dust and acting as a storage shelf. The dryer drum, however, can be used for a number of purposes. Remove the dryer drum and get creative. - The dryer drum is perfect for a burning barrel. Dig into the ground about 4 inches with a shovel and set the dryer drum on the dug-out area. Shovel the excess dirt around the edge of the drum and tamp it down with your foot. The perforations in the drum will make for a perfect burning barrel that will supply a lot of air to the fire.
- Cut the drum in half with an angle grinder. Insert a piece of 4-inch tube steel into the ground about 3 feet so the tube is sticking straight up. Weld one half of the drum to the bottom of the steel tube. Use hinges to attach the two drum halves in the back and add a handle in the front for easy opening and closing. Lay a grate in the dryer drum grill for the charcoal to sit on.
- Cut out one end of the dryer drum with an angle grinder. Take a piece of conduit and put it through the dryer drum and run a threaded rod through the conduit so a few inches stick out on each side. Attach washers and nuts onto the threaded ends until they are tight to the conduit. Take a light rope and make loops on each end, putting the loops around the ends of the rod. Attach washers and nuts to the ends of the threaded rods. Hook the middle of the rope to the hitch of a lawn tractor and pull the drum around the yard, flattening the lawn.
