How to Make an Inexpensive Baby Mobile
- 1). Remove the inner hoop from the outer quilting hoop. Discard the outer hoop.
- 2). Paint one half of the hoop thoroughly and allow it to dry. Paint the other half.
- 3). Measure and cut two 24-inch lengths of ribbon. Tie the end of one piece with a double knot anywhere on the hoop. Double-knot the other end to the hoop directly opposite the first knot. Tie one end of the second piece of ribbon to the hoop halfway between the ends of the first ribbon. Secure the other end directly opposite.
- 4). Lift the two pieces of ribbon straight up. Center the crossed section of ribbon over the center of the circle. Make sure each of the four sections of ribbon is even so the mobile will hang straight. Secure the crossed section of ribbon with a safety pin.
- 5). Measure and cut a length of ribbon according to the height of your ceiling. The bottom of the mobile should hang approximately 3 feet above the crib mattress.
- 6). Tie the ribbon in a double knot around the crossed, safety-pinned section of ribbon on the hoop. Cut a short length of ribbon and tie a bow around the knot.
- 7). Tie lightweight objects to the hoop with strong thread or more ribbon. Always use double knots to ensure the knot won't come undone. Some inexpensive options include black and white family photographs, colorful origami cranes or hand-knitted stars.
- 8). Put an eye screw into the ceiling directly over where you'd like the mobile to hang. Triple-knot the ribbon to the eye hook once you've found the right height for the mobile.
