- 1). Dip 3 tapers (visit Suite101.com to learn how to make candles; see Resources). The taller the candles, the more impressive and beautiful your braided candle will be.
- 2). Place your three warm, pliable and freshly dipped tapers next to each other on a piece of grease-proof paper. Both wax paper and baking parchment work well.
- 3). Work quickly. You have about 15 minutes before the candles become too cool to hand model. Start at the top; press three tops of the candles together gently in a row.
- 4). Pick up the left candle just underneath where you pushed the tops together and gently fold it over the middle candle. Pick up the right candle and gently fold it over what is now the middle candle. Pick up the candle on the left and fold it gently over the candle that is now in middle. Pick up the candle on the right and fold it gently over the candle that is now in the middle. You should see the beginning of your braid.
- 5). Continue this process until you have braided almost all the length of the candles.
- 6). Place your hand around the very bottom of the candles. Gently press the bottoms together. Mold a shape that will fit in your candle holder; alternatively, flatten the bottom so the candle will stand up on its own.
- 7). Cool completely for 1 hour.
