How to Make Fabric Flowers & Fruit
- 1). Trace the shape of a flower blossom or a piece of fruit on to the drawing paper. A stencil may be useful for those who are not comfortable drawing freehand.
- 2). Carefully cut out the template, leaving about a ¼ inch on each side for seam allowance. Pin the template to the fabric. Cut out the fabric on the drawn lines of the template, eliminating the extra ¼ inch allowance.
- 3). Cut out several layers of fabric when making flowers. This helps provide them with a plush, full blossom. Using multiple layers may create an interesting look for fabric fruit as well. Pin all the layers together.
- 4). Cut a small circle from a scrap of felt. The circle should be large enough to support a pin back. Flip over the pinned-together layers of fabric and center them on the felt circle.
- 5). Sew the felt circle onto the back of the fabric. Ensure the thread goes through all of the layers of fabric to hold it tightly in place.
- 6). Sew the pin back on top of the felt circle, through the holes on the pin back. Keep the pin in place using small, even stitches.
