How to Use Finials and Rosettes
- 1). Attach a brass finial to the crown of a grandfather clock by first drilling a hole in the desired location. Use a 1/16-inch bit and cordless drill to bore the hole centered on a small platform located between two points that arch toward each other.
- 2). Insert the screw that is extending from the bottom of the finial into the hole and screw it down tight with your fingers to secure it.
- 3). Pick up a wood final and turn it upside down. Wood finials have a square, flat wooden base. Find the location on a grandfather clock crown, or locate a pattern on a mantle or captain's rail where you want to attach the finial. Smear glue on the base of a wood finial with your fingertip.
- 4). Press down hard, holding the finial in place in the glue. Wait at least three minutes for the glue to set and let go.
- 5). Pick up a rosette and turn it over. Smear a circular pattern of glue on the back with your fingertip. Place the rosette on top of vertical molding at the top right and left side of a doorway. It should fit flat against the wall, centered resting on the molding.
- 6). Shoot three pin nails through the face of the rosette with a pin nailer using 1-1/2 inch pin nails.
