Is NutriSystem Safe? I"ll Tell You

I get a lot of questions from people asking me if NutriSystem is really healthy or if being on is "dangerous.
"  I think that folks sometimes see the dramatic weight loss on celebrities like Jillian Barberie and Marie Osmond and think that this must be some kind of very low calorie or starvation diet.
  It really isn't.
  It doesn't require a prescription or a doctor's recommendation (although common sense should obviously be used.
) I'll explain why I believe that NutriSystem is perfectly safe in the following article.
I Believe That You Get Enough Calories On NutriSystem:  First off, this is not a grossly restrictive diet, in terms of calories.
  This one does not fall into the category of only 800 calories or less which often requires that you are supervised by a doctor.
The typical calorie intake on this diet is more between 1,000 and 1,200 calories per day, which is typical of most "diets" today.
Why I Believe That The Ketosis Process With NutriSystem Is Also Safe:  This diet works like a lot of other low carb or "glycemic friendly" diets work.
You are limiting the carb to protein ratio.
  You're eating more "good" carbs and you're taking in a higher amount of protein.
  This puts your body into ketosis which means that your body starts feeding off of fat rather than off of carbs.
  In terms of weight loss, this is a really good thing.
  But, there is always debate as to whether ketosis is safe or not.
  There have been many studies on this and two in particular have pointed to the fact that ketosis was not only safe, but it also improved cardiovascular health, muscle mass, and insulin levels.
(The two studies I'm speaking of are called "A Ketogenic Diet Favorably Affects Serum Biomarkers for Cardiovascular Disease in Normal-Weight Men," and  "Body Composition and Hormonal Responses to a Carbohydrate Restricted Diet," respectively.
) Still, it doesn't hurt to ask your doctor if you are unsure or if you notice any changes in your body that are troublesome to you.
  It's my experience that this state of ketosis is pretty gentle and not worrisome, but as I said before, you should always use your own common sense.
The Nutrition Of NutriSystem:  I sometimes have people who write me and say that they don't buy into NutriSystem because they can't believe that any diet which allows you to eat pizza, burgers, fajitas, and cake would actually work.
  Well, what they don't understand is that these foods aren't your typical comfort foods like you would make at home if you weren't worried about your weight.
  Obviously, they have been modified to be lower in calories and carbs and higher in protein.
  And, they are all fortified with vitamins and minerals.
  Most have about 20 - 30 percent of many of the recommended daily values of the nutrients that your body needs.
  I know that in my case, sticking with this diet has actually improved my nutrition because before, I wasn't adding in fresh fruits and vegetables at every meal and I certainly wasn't maintaining a favorable carb to protein ratio.
It's very hard to get the formula right on your own, in my experience.
  It's so much easier to let the experts do the work and research.
All in all, my experience has been that NutriSystem is very safe.
I've never felt sick or weak or odd on it.
It's been around and has been researched and tested for a very long time.
  They do provide free counseling and resources so you should be able to get any question or concern that you have answered.
  And of course, you should never hesitate to involve your doctor if you are concerned about your health.
