How to Crochet Around a Pop Top
- 1). Wash the pop tops and dry them well. Remove any sharp edges with wire cutters or pliers.
- 2). Single crochet across the thin end (the end you pull) of a pop top. Don't cover the sides, just the ends. With most thread sizes, this will take three or four stitches.
- 3). Hold another pop top beside the first one and work the same number of stitches in it. Repeat the process until you have crocheted across the ends of six pop tops.
- 4). Form the pop tops in a circle and crochet the ends together. This will leave a hole in the center of the circle.
- 5). Fill in the circle with rounds of single crochet, decreasing the number as necessary to keep the center flat. Fasten off the thread. (This step is optional. You can leave the center open.)
- 6). Work single crochet around the other open end of the first pop top. Add enough stitches to go up the side, across the end and back down the side. The stitches should lie smoothly side by side and completely cover the metal.
- 7). Insert the hook in the next pop top and work the same number of single crochets as you did in the first one. Repeat until you have crocheted around all six of the pop tops. Join in the first single of the first pop top and fasten off.
