    • 1). Assemble the fabric frame if it is not assembled. Place the corners together and tap the corners into each other with a hammer.

    • 2). Set the fabric on top of the frame with the pattern side facing you. Pin the fabric to the frame, using the push pins, beginning at the upper, left corner. Pull the fabric down toward the lower left corner, keeping the fabric stretched. Push pins into this corner. Push pins into the fabric and frame from the upper left edge to the lower left edge.

    • 3). Stretch the fabric and pin it to the lower right side of the frame, then add more push pins between both of the push pins on the bottom edge. Pull the fabric with a diagonal motion up and to the right side of the frame. Pull only tightly enough to make sure the pattern is centered square in the frame. Place a pin in this corner.

    • 4). Stretch the fabric tightly, beginning with the lower right corner and place push pins on the right edge of the frame. As you tighten the fabric, you may find it necessary to re-pin other corners so the fabric is tight as a drum.

    • 5). Wind the skein of embroidery floss on a cardboard wedge. Pull on the end of the thread, unraveling until you have about 18 inches of unraveled floss.

    • 6). Push the loop of the needle threader into the hole inside the needle point of the punch needle so it sticks out of the top of the punch needle handle.

    • 7). Drop the unraveled end of floss through the loop of the threader, then remove the threader from the needle and the end of the floss.

    • 8). Hold the punch needle just as you would hold a pen in an upright position. Smoothly punch the needle through the fabric, pushing the shank completely into the fabric.

    • 9). Pull the needle back out so the tip of the needle touches the fabric surface.

Slide the needle over about 1/4-inch to 1 1/4-inches and push it through the fabric again.
