Modern Silkscreening Fabrics

• Silkscreening fabric is a product specific to silkscreening, so it is called just that; silkscreening fabric. It is made of very fine and very strong polyester threads. There are two varieties; monofilament and multifilament. The first is made of individual twisted threads. The second is constructed of multiple threads that have been twisted together then made into cloth.
  
  

Thread Counts

• Thread count determines the quality and price of silkscreening material. There are a variety of thread counts that are denoted by a number and a certain number of Xs. For instance 8XX refers to a 109 thread count, while 14XX refers to 138.

• Silkscreening is relatively affordable when compared to other ways of printing. The cloth and screen last a long time, and the variety of colors and effects that can be produced are endless. This has made it a favorite of artists.

• Silkscreening can be used to stencil just about anything. In America, the vast number of cotton T-shirts that are seen is a testament to one widely used fabric. However, silk, polyester and many other fabrics are fine choices.
