How to File a Complaint About a New Jersey Auto Insurance Settlement on the Total Loss of a Vehicle
- 1). Download an insurance complaint form from the DOBI website (see resources) or request to have one mailed to you by calling the DOBI's consumer hotline at 800-446-7467.
- 2). Gather documents to send to the DOBI to support what you believe the vehicle is worth. Online sites such as the those by Edmunds and AutoTrader can provide you with information on what vehicles similar to your's are selling for. If your vehicle is considered a classic vehicle, obtain a bid from a classic car dealer.
- 3). Complete the complaint form by providing your contact information, the pertinent information regarding the insurance company and a summary of your complaint. If you previously filed a complaint with the DOBI regarding this matter, enter the prior tracking number on the CICPU tracking number line.
- 4). Fax the complaint form and supporting documents to 609-777-0508 or mail them to:
New Jersey Department of Banking and Insurance
Consumer Inquiry and Case Preparation Unit
PO Box 471
Trenton, NJ 08625-0471
The DOBI will write back to you with the outcome when it finishes the investigation.
