o Read the book through yourself first If you are not interested in the book then your child will not be, if the book cannot even hold your attention.
o Provide a relaxed environment It is important that your TV is not on and there is nothing to distract your child or else they will not take in the book and will not appreciate the quality time you are spending with them o Establish a habit Before going to bed, you should set aside 10-20 minutes to read to your child, at set times throughout the day, so your child knows its their time with you.
This could be before bath, after bath, after breakfast etc.
Just be consistent with your child's reading and don't let them down, children love routine! o Interact Kids don't always like to stick to the narrative of the book, and sometimes like to discuss the pictures or need you to improvise.
Ask them there opinion on what will happen in the story or what they think the characters should do, especially if there is a moral behind the story.
