What is the File Extension .vxd?
- A file with a VXD file extension is known as a virtual device driver. The VXD file extension serves as a marker, allowing Windows to find and access the information contained in the file when it is needed.
- The VXD file is a reference file for Windows that provides the instructions for opening and closing specific files. Some VXD files are installed initially with Windows, while others install later when you add new programs.
- VXD files cannot be opened. If you attempt to open a VXD file, you will receive an error message.
- Deleting VXD files can cause programs to no longer open and can even interfere with the start up of Windows.
- If you inadvertently delete a VXD file, you might be able to obtain a replacement copy by reinstalling the Windows operating system program or the program affected by the absence of the VXD file.
