- The 1988 Chevrolet C/K 1500 was available in several variations. In the four-wheel-drive version, buyers could get a regular cab and a 6.5-foot bed, a regular cab and an 8-foot bed, an extended cab and an 8-foot bed, a regular cab and an 8-foot bed with a diesel engine, and an extended cab and an 8-foot bed and a diesel engine. In the two-wheel-drive version, buyers could get a regular cab and a 6.5-foot bed, an extended cab and an 8-foot bed, a regular cab and an 8-foot bed with a diesel engine, and an extended cab and an 8-foot bed with a diesel engine.
- The gasoline-engine variations of the C1500 all came standard with a 4.3-liter V6 that produced 160 horsepower and 235 ft.-lb. of torque. The diesel engine variations came standard with a 6.2-liter V8 that produced 126 horsepower and 240 ft.-lb. of torque. Except for the regular- and extended-cab four-wheel-drive diesels that came standard with a three-speed automatic overdrive transmission, the C1500 came standard with a four-speed automatic overdrive transmission.
- With only slight variation, all C1500 versions averaged 16 to 18 mpg in the city, and 20 to 25 mpg on the highway. All 1988 C1500 trucks came standard with ABS brakes.
