How to Build a Large Deer Feeder

    • 1). Lay a clean plastic 55-gallon drum horizontally on level ground and measure up 12 inches from the bottom of the drum. Cut the top from the drum with a saw to form the base of your large deer trough.

    • 2). Invert the drum so it is resting on the cut side, and use the drill to make 25 to 30 holes spaced out over the bottom. That will allow excess moisture to drain down into the ground, without allowing too much feed to filter out.

    • 3). Make three vertical slots at one end of each PVC pipe with the saw. The slots need to be a minimum of 8 inches long and 3/4 inch in diameter to let the deer chow flow freely.

    • 4). Cut four sets of evenly spaced holes along the back of one long side of the base, and attach one pole between each set of holes. Turn the pipes so that the slits are resting against the bottom of the large feeder, and secure each pole with a zip tie.

    • 5). Carry the feeder to a tree-lined spot on your property, and attach the feeder to a sturdy tree with zip ties. Space the ties along the length of one section of pipe to hold the feeder in place. Fill each PVC pipe with deer chow, and cover with an end cap to keep the feed dry.
