How to Replace the Belt on a 1992 Cadillac
- 1). Locate the routing diagram for the serpentine belt on top of the plastic fan cover. Refer to the routing instructions to properly install the new belt. If the diagram is missing, sketch out how the belt routes around the accessory pulleys before removing it.
- 2). Inspect the front of the engine and locate the belt tensioner. Use the tensioner pulley bolt head to turn the entire tensioner. Position a socket and breaker bar onto the bolt head and turn the tensioner counterclockwise to loosen the tension from the belt.
- 3). Pull the belt off of the tensioner pulley and release the tensioner. Pull the belt out of the engine bay.
- 4). Wrap the new belt around the crankshaft pulley on the bottom of the engine. Refer to the belt routing diagram or your sketch to route the new belt around the other pulleys.
- 5). Turn the tensioner counterclockwise with the breaker bar and socket. Slide the belt around the tensioner pulley and release the tensioner. Make sure that the belt is inside of each pulley.
- 6). Crank the engine of your 1992 Cadillac for about 10 seconds to seat the new belt to the inside of each pulley. Turn the engine off.
