How to Replace Car Interiors
- 1). Remove the seats. Most seats are bolted in with four bolts that are removed with a socket, two in the front and two in the rear. Slide the seat back to gain access to the front bolts and forward to gain access to the rear bolts. Remove the rear bench seats if the car has them.
- 2). Remove the seat tracks with a socket or a wrench if they are not removed with the seat. These will be bolted in in a similar manner to the seats.
- 3). Remove the door hardware. If the car has roll-up windows, there will probably be a small set screw or bolt holding the door handles on. Power window controls can be gently pried up and disconnected from the wiring harness.
- 4). Pull the door panels off. These are usually held in with small clips that go into the door. The door panel can be gently pulled off starting at the corner.
- 5). Remove all of the interior panels, including the center console. The console will be bolted in with several bolts and or screws. Depending on the model, there might be panels in the foot wells and other areas that need to be removed.
- 6). Pull the carpeting and sound deadening out of the car. Scrape the floorboards with a chisel or scraper to remove any glue and residue that held the sound deadening in place.
- 7). Remove the headliner. Headliners usually require that the windows and interior trim around the windows be removed to allow the headliner to be installed, since the windows overlap it.
- 8). Install a new headliner. This should be done by a professional shop for the best results. Refit the front and rear windows and refit any trim that was removed (see Resource 2).
- 9). Glue down new sound-deadening material. Cut the material to fit with scissors and then glue into place with spray-on carpet adhesive. Spray on a consistent layer of adhesive, let it sit for a few minutes and then glue the sound-deadening into place.

Glue new carpeting in over the sound-deadening, using the same method that was used to install the sound-deadening. - 11
Repaint the seat tracks and then bolt them back in. Install new or recovered door panels and interior panels. Reinstall the door handles and hardware. Install new or reupholstered seats.
