How to Remove a 1998 Saturn Sl2 Starter
- 1). Use the jack to lift up the front of the vehicle, then set it on the jack stands. Be sure that the vehicle is completely and solidly on the stands before you work on it. Use an open-end wrench to remove the negative post on the battery. Remove the positive post in the same manner.
- 2). Crawl underneath the car and locate the starter motor, which is next to the transmission. Locate the heat shield around the starter. Use needle nose pliers to remove the pin holding the heat shield in place. Use an open-end wrench to disconnect the electrical connections on the starter.
- 3). Use the 3/8-inch ratchet and socket to unbolt the bottom starter bolt. Use the obstruction wrench to remove the top bolt, which is difficult to access otherwise.
- 4). Lift the starter motor out of the engine bay and away from the car.
