    • 1). Allow the car to sit for at least two hours before replacing the oil pan. If you touch an oil pan or oil at the car's operating temperature, you risk burning yourself.

    • 2). Drain the oil from the engine by loosening the oil drain plug. Allow the oil to drain for ten to fifteen minutes into a catch device.

    • 3). Loosen and remove the bolts surrounding the entire oil pan. Set the bolts to the side of your workspace. Remove the pan carefully to avoid hitting the crankshaft of the motor.

    • 4). Scrape the remnants of the old oil pan gasket from around the bottom of the engine block. Avoid applying too much pressure to the gasket mating surface. You can gouge the surface metal, creating a passage for oil to escape.

    • 5). Set the replacement gasket on the replacement oil pan and put the pan into position under the engine block. Loosely tighten four or five bolts to hold the pan in place.

    • 6). Tighten all remaining bolts into position around the oil pan. Place the replacement oil drain plug gasket on the oil pan and screw in the oil drain plug.

    • 7). Fill your Chrysler 2.7-liter engine with the recommended amount and type of motor oil.
