Replacing Front Blinkers

• 1). Remove the front reflector assembly. Slide a plastic prytool in between the lenses on the front turn signals and push them forward until they pop out from the outside. Move slowly and gently to avoid damaging the plastic lenses as age can make them brittle.
  
  
• 2). Rotate the socket on the turn signal a quarter turn to the left and slide the socket back through the hole in the housing. Pull the housing out so only the socket, the bulb and the wiring holding it remain.
  
  
• 3). Pull the blinker bulb out of the socket and turn to disconnect it from the retaining pin.
  
  
• 4). Turn the replacement turn signal bulb onto the retaining pin and push it into the socket.
  
  
• 5). Slide the housing back over the new bulb and fit the socket into the hole in the back by turning it a quarter turn to the right.
  
  
• 6). Push the reflectors and lenses on the front of the Jetta back into place gently to keep them from cracking.
  
  

Replacing Rear Blinkers

• 1). Disconnect the negative battery cable from the terminal using an adjustable wrench.
  
  
• 2). Pop the trunk and locate the access panels for the rear brake and turn signal lights along either side of the back of the car.
  
  
• 3). Pull the fasteners off the access panel and pull the panel out of its opening.
  
  
• 4). Unscrew the two screws holding the rear light assembly in place under the access panel opening and gently pull the light assembly through the hole.
  
  
• 5). Twist the socket for the rear blinker from the back of the light assembly and pull the socket and bulb out through the hole.
  
  
• 6). Press the bulb into the socket and turn it to the left until it releases and you can pull it out of the socket.
  
  
• 7). Push the replacement bulb into the socket and turn it to the right. Slide the bulb and socket back into the rear light assembly and attach the assembly with the retaining screws.
  
  
• 8). Put the access panel back into the hole and fasten it with the fasteners. Close the trunk and reattach the negative battery cable to the battery with the adjustable wrench.
