103 182
The news about the financial crisis has been running 24/7.
You may have already been affected by job loss, lost investments or pension plan, inability to obtain credit or concerned about how the coming weeks, months, and perhaps years will effect you and your family.
Is this leading to another Great Depression?  Will there be shortages of food and household goods?  Will you be able to buy gas for the car, and keep your home? Emotional stress and lack of sleep are the two most common triggers for canker sore and cold sore eruptions.
For those of you who may wonder what the difference is between a canker sore and cold sore, it's this: All cold sores and many cankers sores, though not all, are caused by the herpes simplex virus I.
You're in good company because most of the world's population carries the virus, although not everyone who does will experience a cold or canker sore infection in their lifetime.
A canker sore is a small shallow ulceration that develops inside the mouth, typically with no early warning symptom as there is with an impending cold sore eruption, which develops outside the mouth, typically on the lips or nasal area.
The early warning symptom will be felt where the cold sore plans to appear-a tingling, itching, or numb sensation.
The sore becomes a blister, or cluster of blisters.
It's painful, unsightly, and because of that, embarrassing.
It takes two long weeks to heal.
Stress, which often causes sleeping problems, can lead to anxiety, depression, a lowered immune system, all kinds of aches and ills and, yes - the dreaded cold sore or canker sore.
Before I give you my tried and true list of favorite remedies that should either prevent or heal either of these type sores in record time, I want to hammer home that you can control your emotional state regardless of outside circumstances.
  Yes, you can.
It's by utilizing any kind of calming discipline such as meditation, yoga, breathing exercise, or resting in a quiet place listening to soothing music with a very, very slow beat.
Do it everyday, preferably in the morning because it will help you move through the day more peacefully and grounded.
There's a wealth of free information online how to do any of these things, and more.
When I was a young adult, I did not take seriously the effect that foods I ate and lack of getting a full night's sleep had on my immune system and feelings of wellbeing.
With more life experience and maturity, I now know better.
By the way, did you know that your body recovers more fully and is better rested when you sleep your 7-8 hours starting between 9pm to 11pm rather than going to bed at 1am or after?  Try it for a week, and assess if there's a difference how you feel.
No, I haven't gone off topic.
This all relates back to stress and fatigue, the major cause of cold and canker sores, and how you might be able the prevent or reduce the number of outbreaks you experience.
When under stress, consider taking a good quality multivitamin each day.
In addition, the "stress" vitamin, known as super complex B vitamins, can be an immense help.
While there are several prescription drugs that work to treat cold and canker sores, going with an effective herbal or natural remedy can be less expensive, work as effectively, if not more so, and have fewer possible side effects.
You will be the ultimate judge.

REMEDIES FOR COLD SORES OR CANKER SORES Lysine, an amino acid.
You've probably heard about it, but if you haven't tried it, perhaps you should.
It can be taken on an empty stomach and find that 1500mg a day is enough to treat the problem.
Take the same amount daily as a preventative.
Increase to 1800mg if there's an eruption, then resume 1500mg per day once the sore has healed.
Slippery Elm is another great herb that works to treat both cold sores and canker sores.
Open the capsule, add a drop or two of water, mix into a paste, and apply to the affected area.
If an eruption has occurred already, repeat several times a day until the sore has healed.
Garlic can do wonders for treating both problems.
Use a garlic supplement that's labeled "deodorized" garlic, which means no odor, no repeating on you, or tasting it later.
Follow the directions on the bottle.
Price can vary, but generally, inexpensive.
REMEDIES SPECIFIC FOR COLD SORES Lemon - fresh, natural and surprisingly effective for many.
Do not use if the sore is open and raw, because it will burn like crazy.

Change it as often as possible with a fresh slice.
Apple Cider Vinegar - In a cup, mix a few drops of apple cider vinegar with a few drops of freshly squeezed lemon juice.
Pour a small amount of this mixture on a cotton ball and apply where the early warning symptom is occurring.
This can really help to prevent the eruption.
You can use it several times a day to a sore that has recently started to help heal it fast and keep it small, but don't use it on an open sore because it will sting.
Cold Sores Begone, a topical, herbal remedy in a pocketsize bottle that you can throw in your purse or gear when you're on the go.
Apply at the early warning symptom, and for most people, end of story, infection aborted.
For a recent eruption, applying several times a day will keep it small and gone within a few days.

Deglycyrrhizinated Licorice (DGL):  a form of the herb known as licorice, it has anti-inflammatory properties, speeds the healing process, and soothes the discomfort of canker sores.
Take two 200-milligram tablets 20 minutes before meals, or chew one or two tablets two or three times a day.
While chewing, use your tongue to position the tablet residue on the sore to promote even speedier healing.
