Drive Belt Installation on a 1994 Mercurcy Tracer 1.9
- 1). Locate the belt routing diagram for the serpentine belt. The diagram is printed on the underside of your Tracer's engine hood. If the diagram is missing, sketch one out yourself, showing each pulley and which side the belt presses against. This will help you when you put the new belt onto the pulleys.
- 2). Place a 3/8-inch ratchet driver into the square hole on the tensioner pulley located at the bottom of the engine. The tensioner pulley has a large spring extending from it and does not connect to any accessories on the engine.
- 3). Pull up on the ratchet handle to relieve pressure on the Tracer's serpentine belt. Slide the belt off the serpentine pulley.
- 4). Slide the belt off the other pulleys and discard it.
- 5). Place the new belt onto all of the pulleys except for the tensioner pulley. Use the diagram as your guide for the proper belt placement.
- 6). Pull up on the ratchet handle and slide the belt over the tensioner pulley.
- 7). Remove the ratchet from the tensioner pulley.
