How to Change the Manual Transmission Oil in a Toyota Matrix
- 1). Park the Matrix on flat ground and touch the engine hood to ensure it's cool. If the hood is hot, wait about 30 minutes before proceeding.
- 2). Lift the front end of the Matrix up on jack stands to access the underside of the engine more easily. Slide underneath the car and find the round, metal gearbox near the center of the engine. The gearbox has two pipes extending from it, one from the front and one from the back.
- 3). Position a collection pan beneath the front pipe running from the gearbox. Remove the bolts on each of the pipes with the 3/8-inch socket wrench. Wait 15 minutes while the fluid runs into the collection pan from the front pipe. Replace the bolt on the front pipe.
- 4). Fill the fluid pump's tank with 3.2 quarts of fresh transmission oil. Switch the tab on the clear tube to "inject."
- 5). Place the clear tube into the fill plug on the back pipe running from the gearbox. Hold the tube in place and pump the handle of the fluid pump until all the transmission oil is in the gearbox.
- 6). Replace the bolt on the back pipe.
