    • 1). Launch Pizzicato on your computer. At first launch it will bring up a piano score staff.

    • 2). Change the type of score you will be composing if you are writing for more than just the piano. Click "Options" from the menu bar and choose "Global Options." A window will pop up with the default template file listed. Chose "Select" next to the file name. In the browsing window that comes up choose "One Linear Measure" then click OK. Click "File" > "New" to bring up a new document.

    • 3). Click the measures tool (looks like a measure with no clef) and double click on any part of the score. A window will pop up giving options of how many staves (instruments) you'd like in your score as well as how many measures. Input the numbers for these options and click "OK." The score will now reflect the changes you've made,

    • 4). Click "Tools" > "Notes and Rests" to bring up the composition palette. To input a note choose the note value from the palette you'd wish to add to your score and click on the staff to place the note.

    • 5). Stack notes on top of each (as in a chord) by clicking the chord tool (looks like three stacked notes). Click on the space above or below the note where you'd wish to add another note.

    • 6). Hold shift then click on the score to enter a rest. The rest's value will be equal to the value of the note you currently have selected.

    • 7). Print your score by clicking "File" > "Print."
