Marianna's Birth

I am the proud mother of a wonderful baby girl. She was born Feb. 1, 1999 at 7:48 p.m. I'm a fist time mummy so labor and delivery were all new to me. I always thought that most women were wimps and that labor and delivery couldn't possibly hurt THAT much. After two weeks in bed rest I woke up about 5:00 A.M. feeling week contractions, I knew right a way I was in labor.

I awoke my husband and we got ready. But the time we were on our way to the doctors office the contractions had been coming about 4 min. apart for 3 1/2 hours. When my doctor checked my cervix around 8:30 a.m. I was only 3 centimeters and he thought the baby wouldn't be born until the next morning, but he sent me to the hospital anyway.

I thought that the pain couldn't possibly get any worse and started to panic around 10:45, because I wasn't all the way to 4 centimeters yet. At 1:00 p.m. I was given a Pitocin drip and it was down hill from there. The contractions became longer and more intense, I had decided on a natural birth from the beginning of my pregnancy (I wasn't too sure that had turn out to be such a good idea while in labor) so my nurse was very supportive and encouraging (my hubby too).

At 3:00 p.m. my water broke and I was no longer in the mood to walk or change positions, or do my breathing exercises for that matter. By 6:45 p.m. I felt the great desire too push so my doctor decided to check my cervix again, and by the I had fully dilated. But nobody(including me) had expected me to dilate so quickly, so no one was ready. I had to blow-out for two or three contractions while every one got ready. Finally at around 7:15 p.m. I began to push and by 7:48 p.m. I was holding my 7.28 pound baby. WHAT A GREAT FEELING !!!!! Know looking back I don't have any regrets about natural birth and I will do it again when God gives us another bundle of joy.
