- 1). Measure the dimensions of the wall you are going to build. Gather your lumber. Use pressure-treated lumber for the best results, as it contains chemicals that guard against moisture and insect damage. Cut two studs the same length to match the length needed for the walls. These will be the top and bottom plates.
- 2). Place both studs together on the ground one on top of the other. Line up the ends. Measure along their lengths and put pencil marks every 16 inches. Mark both plates at the same time to ensure accurate placement of the vertical studs
- 3). Measure the finished height of your shed. Use this measurement to determine the length of your wall studs. Make sure to allow for the thickness of the plates themselves when figuring the length of the vertical studs.
- 4). Measure and cut the vertical studs to length. Place the top and bottom plates on the ground opposite one another. Position the studs one by one between the two plates. Drive framing nails or 3-inch galvanized screws through the plate and into the tops of each stud.
- 5). Stand the wall up and pull a tape measure from one corner to the other to check the squareness of the the wall. The idea is to wrack the wall back and forth until both measurements are the same. This means the wall is perfectly square and ready for installation.
