How to Write a Biographic Essay

104 22
    • 1). Choose your subject. Decide whether to write about a stranger or someone you know. Research your subject to find information about his life. If you choose someone famous, you will have to do research at the library and on the Internet. If you choose someone you know, you can interview your subject for information and may also be able to add his personal memories of his life.

    • 2). Write an introductory paragraph that tells who your subject is and why she is important. If she is famous, explain why she is famous (a pop star, a suffragette, etc). If she is not famous, explain why she is important in your life and why you chose her.

    • 3). Write your next several paragraphs about the subject's life. Include information (including date and place) about the subject's birth and move chronologically through the subject's life. Give dates and other information for major events in the subject's life. Explain why the events were important. Mention any achievements, awards and honors the subject received. You may also include information on hobbies, jobs and interests---anything you think the reader would like to know. If the subject is deceased, give the date and circumstances of her death.

    • 4). End your essay with a summary paragraph. Reiterate what makes the subject interesting and what the reader can learn from his story. If the subject is still alive, you may include information on what he is doing now and what his future goals are.
