How to Make Harmonics Sound on a Guitar
- 1). Using a single finger with your left hand, touch the guitar string just over the fret without depressing the string.
- 2). Pluck the string using your right hand. Remove your left hand from the string as soon as you pluck the note. This is known as a natural harmonic.
- 3). Stop the sound by placing your right hand gently over the string that was plucked. This will stop the string from vibrating and it will no longer produce sound.
- 1). Using your left index finger, depress a note of your choice on the neck of the guitar.
- 2). Count up 12 frets from the fret you have depressed with your left hand.
- 3). With your right index finger, lightly touch the string just over the fret without depressing the string.
- 4). Pluck the fretted string with another finger from your right hand. As you pluck the string, quickly remove your index finger from the string. This technique will produce an artificial harmonic.
