What Is an ISO Agreement?
- Participation in the ISO and adherence to ISO standards is voluntary. Members and non-members can purchase standards and other publications from the organization via the local ISO office. ISO publications may also be purchased online. Online purchases are accompanied by a license agreement, which demarcates the terms, liabilities and protections associated with the printed material.
- The ISO has two methods for establishing standards: By technical committee or international workshop. The resulting document detailing the standards agreed upon as a result of the international workshop is called an International Workshop Agreement. An IWA can cover any subject in any industry or market sector.
- Two parties may enter into an agreement to conform to ISO standards. The ISO has 18,000 standards and other normative specification documents. Agreeing parties will specify the ISO standards to which they will adhere in a mutually signed contract.
