Pork Shoulder Cooking Instructions
- 1). Preheat the oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit.
- 2). Rinse the pork shoulder under cold water, and place the roast in a roasting pan.
- 3). Sprinkle seasoning salt, garlic powder, black pepper and cayenne pepper on the pork shoulder. Press a sprig of fresh rosemary into the flesh on both the top and bottom of the meat.
- 4). Cover the pan with a lid or aluminum foil and place the covered pan in the oven. Let the shoulder cook approximately 35 to 40 minutes per pound. For example, a 6-lbs. pork shoulder must cook for a minimum of three and a half hours.
- 5). Remove the pan from the oven, uncover the meat, and stab the meat with a meat thermometer. The meat is fully cooked when it reaches an internal temperature of 185 degrees Fahrenheit. If the meat is not done cooking, cover the pan and place it back in the oven. Check the internal temperature of the meat every 15 minutes until it's done.
- 6). Spoon the drippings on top of the meat. Let the meat rest for 15 minutes before slicing or shredding the pork.
