However, a study by the Refrigeration Service Engineers Society which compared both compressors efficiency, came to the conclusion that both are very good compressors, but the reciprocating compressor is a bit more efficient in central air conditioner systems that has a cooling power of one to three tons and the scroll compressors tend to be more efficient in units that provides over 3 tons.
