Coon Creek Campground, Shelbyville, Illinois

About.com Rating

I found out about this campground on Reserve America, and I RV camped there in June 2007.

Describe your camping trip:

The campground leaves much to be desired. The Reserve America site listed our reserved site as a buddy site capable of handling two trailers. The drive was listed as 40 feet long. This is a complete misrepresentation of the actual site. One drive was available, right at 30 feet long, with the buddy portion suitable for a tent or maybe a popup.

The sites are short, and the campground is not suitable for nearly any modern, full size trailer. The showerhouse was not clean. There is a lot of mold present, and the fixtures have many years of caulk over caulk smeared on them. The streets are paved but narrow, and the campground is just not well setup.

Pros: none

Cons: see description

Nearby attractions: Cornfields. There is a lake, but you won't see it for the heavy tree line and unkept foliage.

Further comments:

Don't waste your time. The route to the campground is out in the middle of the country, very winding and narrow. There were times my truck and trailer were very close to the roadside ditch just to have two vehicles pass each other. There are many other campgrounds in Illinois that are more enjoyable, with easier access.
