Paintless Dent Removal Tools
- Dent pullers use special glue that will not lift paint. Apply a liberal amount on a stick with a circular head called the dent puller. Firmly place it in the center of the dent right on the paint. Attach a handle shaped pulling bridge to the dent puller, and turn a wing nut tight. After a few turns the dent will pop right off, and so will the whole dent puller. Polish the spot with a soft cloth to remove any blemish from the glue.
- Pry bars pop dents where the metal is bowed in. A technician will use either J-hooks, Z-bars or flat bars on a dent depending upon the location. Pry bars are all used by gently applying pressure to the bowed part of the dent, working the metal until it pops back into place. Most pry bars have flat heads, however J-hooks have pointed heads for cutting into tight spots when going down the glass of a vehicle.
- Suction cups for auto body are placed over the dent and primed like a household plunger. Coming with either a handle grip or a slide hammer, suction cups are carefully pumped until the dent pops free. Use these with caution; too much pressure could cause a larger dent, or remove some paint if used incorrectly.
