What Equipment Do You Need For the P90x Program?
P90X is the powerful workout program by Beachbody featured all over television using infomercials. Many people have ordered the product and put it to great use improving their overall health and fitness.
This is a very challenging and demanding workout program put together by the popular trainer Tony Horton, that uses a principle called muscle confusion. What is meant by muscle confusion is that once your body starts to adapt you change things up and confuse your muscles. They don't get a chance to adapt.
One thing that they don't tell you on infomercials is that when you order P90X in order to do the program properly to need some extra tools. While they do not cost a lot of money you can't do the program with out them.
Here is a list of what you will need to and be successful with P90X.
1 - A good pair of workout sneakers, a towel and comfortable clothes: You are going to be doing a lot of moving around and a lot of sweating so you need to be comfortable while doing it.
2 - Dumbbells: Get this, dumbbells are the core of P90x. You will use them a lot, so I recommend to get what you are comfortable with. You can get a full set or you can get the Bowflex brand.
The Bowflex stuff is not cheap and myself decided to go with the old school hex dumbbells. I got 15 - 40lbs to start with and hopefully will be getting more. You can get a cheaper set of Bowflex style dumbbells at Wal-Mart and Target.
I don't know how the quality is compared to the more expensive ones though. They do come in a smaller size; up to 25lbs, so that may be good for most of the women. There are a lot of exercises that you can use resistance bands in place of the dumbbells to start out with.
3 - A pull-up bar and or resistance workout bands: I am going to be honest; I can barely do one pull up so (that is my main focus for improvement) but I am going hardcore with the pull up bar.
Tony shows you a couple of tricks to help with pull-ups. He shows you how to use a chair to assist and how to use the band instead of doing the actual pull-up.
Some people have trouble doing pull ups, so you may want to start with resistance bands.
4 - A heart-rate monitor: Tony recommends using one so that you can keep up with your cardio intensity. Beachbody recommends that you use a heart rate monitor to gauge your intensity and progress during workouts. Personally, I think that they are worth the money.
5 - Yoga blocks:. Yep, the program has a day of yoga, so it is recommended that you use them to help with the routine and poses. Especially if yoga is new to you. These are also recommended by Beachbody to use during YogaX. The blocks offer added support to assist with balance while holding certain poses.
6 - Push-up bars or stands: You do a lot of push-ups and it can get hard on the wrist. I know that I crashed on my bicycle years ago it can be uncomfortable for me to push-ups at times. The stands take the pressure off and also give you a wider range of motion.
7 - A yoga mat or exercise mat: You will need this especially if you have a hard floor. If you get a mat don't skimp on it.
8 - Beachbody Results & Recovery Formula: Very Important! A MUST HAVE! The P90X recovery drink was designed to provide the precise nutrients you'll need to achieve maximum results from your p90X workout. It is VERY important to get the proper post workout nutrition is a KEY FACTOR in your success with P90X!
These workouts are WAY too INTENSE to be skipping here! I have tried this and I have yet to find another product on the market that is better suited to provide maximum glycogen replenishment and muscle re-synthesis. And this stuff tastes unbelievably good! Ingredients include protein, creatine, L-Glutamine, and L-Argenine. Ladies, don't worry about the creatine making you "bulky' either. It's only about 500 mg...about 10% of a normal serving of creatine.
9 - MOTIVATION: As Tony says; "BRING IT!" and you will have to each day. When you watch the DVDs you will see that Tony has 3 people with him each day. Each one of them will be doing a different level, so pick the one that you fit best with to copy.
Like I stated before, you can get most of the things that you need at Target, Wal-Mart, Sears, Sports Authority, Dick's Sporting Good and even Play It Again Sports.
The difference is the quality and price, so shop around. You can also get what you need from the Beachbody web site. It can save you the driving around town looking.
