- 1). Go to the Start menu in Windows and go to the Accessories folder to open "Microsoft Paint."
- 2). Go to "File" then "Open" in the top menu and open the image you want to use as the backdrop or main image of your banner. This should be a photo of something you sell if you sell a product, a public domain stock photo representing your website or a service you offer or a graphic from the layout of your website.
- 3). Select "Image" then "Resize/Skew..." to shrink the image to fit into a banner ad. Choose the "Select" tool in the toolbox. Click and drag your mouse to select a specific area in the image that you want to use in your banner, then go to "Image" and "Crop."
- 4). Click on the "Rectangle" tool and choose a color in the palette to drag a border around the banner from the top-left corner to the bottom-right corner. A border will help the banner to stand out. Use the "Line", "Pencil" and "Fill With Color" tools to add eye-catching colors to the design.
- 5). Insert text in your banner ad. Choose a color in the color palette that contrasts the color in the background. Click on the "Text" tool and choose the transparent background option for the text (the lower button with the group of shapes below the toolbox). Click and drag with your mouse where you want the text to be and select the font style and size in the text toolbar. Type your text in the text box.
- 6). Save your advertisement banner with a .PNG or .JPG file extension so it will show up as an image on the Internet. Upload it to your server so that it has a URL and insert the URL into the image tag: <img src="yourbanner.png" alt="Banner" /> to display in on your website.
