Craving Sweets
"Okay, I am going to quit eating sweets today.
" Do you ever find yourself thinking that, and a few hours later you eat something sweet anyway? Well, I did this today.
Yes, plan on trying to get healthy, stop the sweets, and then I give in to the craving that is stealing my thoughts, and making my stomach growl.
Only something with sugar in it will suffice.
I decided to try to find out why this is so.
We all know that sweets make us feel happy and content, at least for the moment.
Doctors say that our bodies react this way due to a spike in blood sugar.
Others say it releases feel good hormones in our brains.
Sugar is addictive, yes, can you believe it? Addictive.
Seems our bodies decide they make us think we can not live without this white, non nutritious substance.
Hence, that is why we crave sweets.
We crave sugar when we are stressed, because it gives us a temporary high.
It raises the serotonin levels in our brain, which makes us feel good.
Our cravings also come from hormones, as when we PMS or are menopausal.
When sweets are flavored the cravings multiply.
Chocolate, strawberry, ice creams, cakes, pies, cookies, candy bars, the list goes on and on.
We can smell a sweet substance or see one, and we crave it.
Our brain is smart enough to let our body know that it wants this substance because of the memory of how it tastes, and how good it makes us feel.
There are so many theories on why we crave sweets.
Maybe because of the sweet taste of milk as an infant, high a family gene, maybe just because we like them.
Sometimes there is an actual physical blood sugar problem that should be discussed with our doctor.
A blood sugar problem is very complicated, but can be a sign of a sugar imbalance in the body.
All in all, the majority of us crave sweets.
Will we be able to overcome this addiction? We can be honest with ourselves and try.
Maybe if we think of sugar, alone, as being an empty white substance that turns to fat, then we can control the craving.
However we conquer this craving, we should pass it on so we all can have a chance for a more healthy life.
