Melvin Guillard vs. Evan Dunham Prediction

Undercard Fight Night 23 Predictions

What Melvin Guillard (26-8-2) brings to the table: Guillard is simply an athletic marvel, with enough power and athleticism for a couple of fighters. He has some of the best hands in the business; along with this, the former TUF competitor hits hard, fast, and has good overall technical skills on his feet. What's more, the Jackson's Mixed Martial Arts fighter has improved all of his skills, including his takedown and submission defense.
That said, of his eight losses, seven have come by way of submission.

Although he's riding a three fight winning streak, you can't discount the fact that if he hits the ground against a submission fighter for any length of time, he needs to be worried. Speaking of submission fighters.

What Evan Dunham (11-1) brings to the table: Dunham is a very well-rounded competitor. Against the likes of Sean Sherk (split decision loss) and Tyson Griffin (split decision win) he demonstrated solid striking and wrestling skills. However, what Dunham is most known for is his Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Those long limbs of his help not only in the striking department, but on the ground as well. Along with this, six of his victories have come by way of submission.

Melvin Guillard vs. Evan Dunham Prediction: Guillard will probably need to overwhelm Dunham in order to win, and in his last fight against Jeremy Stephens just didn't seem to have as much of that kind of crazy athleticism as we're used to. Expect Dunham to hold enough of his own on his feet to get this battle to the ground.

There, no matter how much Guillard has been working on his ground skills, he'll be in deep water.

Evan Dunham defeats Melvin Guillard by second round submission.

Tim Hague (10-4) vs. Matt Mitrione (3-0): Hague proved in his last fight against Todd Duffee that he can take a punch and has heart. But he's not as talented in the stand up department as Mitrione, and I think that will be the difference.
Matt Mitrione defeats Tim Hague by decision.

Mark Hominick (19-8) vs. George Roop (10-6-1): Both of these fighters are pretty evenly matched. Give Hominick an edge in the stand up department and therefore the fight.

Mark Hominick defeats George Roop by decision.

Joey Beltran (12-4) vs. Pat Barry (5-2): Barry is a better stand up fighter with more explosiveness. Beltran is very tough, but that may not be enough to take home victory.

Pat Barry defeats Joey Beltran by decision.

Matt Wiman (10-6) vs. Cole Miller (17-4): I love this match up. Wiman's athleticism and power could pull him through here, but I'm going to go with a gut feeling.

Cole Miller defeats Matt Wiman via second round submission.

Mike Guymon (12-4-1) vs. DaMarques Johnson (12-8): Johnson may have a slight athletic advantage here.

DaMarques Johnson defeats Mike Guymon via first round submission.

Mike Brown (24-7) vs. Rani Yahya (15-6): If it goes to the ground, it could be Yahya's night. But I don't think it will.

Mike Brown defeats Rani Yahya by first round TKO.

Willamy Freire (17-3) vs. Waylon Lowe (9-3): I like Freire's submissions here.

Willamy Freire defeats Waylon Lowe by first round submission.

Charlie Brenneman (11-2) vs. Amilcar Alves (11-2): Tough one to call.

Charlie Brenneman defeats Amilcar Alves by decision.

Cody McKenzie (11-1) vs. Yves Edwards (39-16-1): Big experience difference here.

Yves Edwards defeats Cody McKenzie by decision.

Will Campuzano (8-3) vs. Chris Cariaso (10-2): Very little information equates to a rash judgement for me on this one.

Chris Cariaso defeats Will Campuzano by decision.
