By now I'm sure you've heard it said over and over that the appearance of a bodybuilder is the result of both exercise and the correct nutrition.
No matter how much you hit the gym, a diet that doesn't support your bodybuilding efforts will make all your hard work vaporize.
While you may already know what the ideal bodybuilder's diet is, you need to also know the importance of timing.
Look at this scenario, how far your car goes depends on how much fuel you have in the engine.
It is advised that you should give your body a constant supply of energy and nutrients throughout the day.
This means that you need to eat close to 6-8 times in a day.
This is approximately after every 3 or so hours.
There are many advantages of this especially the aspect of it increasing your metabolism.
With the different goals that bodybuilders have, these goals determine what you eat and at what time.
We all know that while we sleep our bodies don't use up a lot of energy.
This means that the more you eat before you sleep the more is stored.
For hard weight gainers, you will gain weight easier if you had a meal just before going to bed.
There are supplements that are especially made for hard gainers.
I'd advice that you should have some of those protein hard gainer supplements before you sleep.
If you're aiming at losing weight, then what you eat at certain time of the day is different from that of a hard gainer.
For instance, while you may still need to eat regularly, you should cut down on the starch intake as the day progresses.
By evening your meals should contain trace amounts of carbohydrates and fats if need be.
I'd advice that your last meal should be at least 2 hours before you sleep.
If this is a bit hard to do due to one reason or the other, pile up your plate with more vegetables than any other food item.
Midnight snacks are a definite no go zone, unless what you're eating is a fresh carrot! One meal that is however important to all bodybuilders regardless of whether or not they want to loose weight is the pre-workout meal.
As the name suggests, this is what you're required to eat before you start working out.
By pre-workout meal I don't mean some shake you drink while in the locker room before you hit the gym floor.
I mean a meal made up of whole foods that provide the energy that you require as you do the workouts.
Don't even think about eating at the restaurant next to the gym and then immediately hitting the gym.
You need to have eaten at least 2 hours before your workout.
This will have given the body enough time for it to burn down the food and release the energy that you'll require in the next while.
Getting the timing right determines how fast you each your goals and also the quality of the results.
