Question: Any suggestions for planning an RV trip to Alaska?
We are planning a RV trip to Alaska this summer, and was wondering if you have any suggestions on how to go about planning a trip like that, we are not interested in doing a tour in Alaska, but on our own. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Let's plan:
1st - Decide where you want to go in Alaska. What do you want to see and do?
2nd - Get geared up! As you're deciding where to go, read what other RVers and travelers say about their trips, how they prepared, and what they learned along the way. Does your gear list have adequate items for the climate, terrain, and "pests" of your destination(s)?
3rd - Plan your route. There are many Internet tools that will draw maps for you, show you where RV parks are along the route, and help you get between destinations. Once you've decided on some destinations, try some of these route planners.
4th - Suggestion: although I've never been to Alaska, I have friends who live there and they recommend visitors to Alaska to take the ferry from Seattle. It will save time and expense compared to driving through Canada. But, time permitting, you may want to travel through Canada. It is very majestic too!
5th - Take all the time you can! I want so much to visit Alaska, also camping, and know that I will need at least an entire sumer to enjoy it.
So, the longer you can afford to stay, DO IT!
