How to Judge an Ugly Sweater Contest
- 1). Create a point system in which you judge each sweater based on fit, color, texture and overall presentation.
- 2). See if it fits properly and rank it according to fit. If the sweater is too small or too baggy, it should gain points towards winning the competition. A sweater that does not complement the person's figure immediately goes in the unattractive pile, even if the sweater is not hard on the eyes.
- 3). Check out the material. The combination of fabric and texture is important. See how the sweater feels. If there is a mismatch of fabrics, such as spandex, wool and cotton, the sweater will lack unity and give a sense of confusion. If the material is bulky or too layered, it might be overwhelming to look at, let alone wear. Frumpy sweaters are usually strong finalists for the ugliest sweater because of the outdated fabric as well as lack of concentrated design and fit.
- 4). Accessories can make or break the sweater. Too many buttons and zippers might hurt a sweater's appearance and give it a strong edge in the competition. A variety of the wrong colors also can make a sweater unappealing and nauseating to look at on another person. If a sweater has too many accessories which add to its ugly factor, add extra points according to the number of accessories.
- 5). Sweaters should have designs, but not decorations. If a sweater has pictures, bells, lights, plastic, fur and other distracting features, it can be labeled as ugly. Many holiday sweaters tend to have these obnoxious features. Examine them carefully and judge the ultimate winner based on which one has the most points. The winning sweater should contain a variety of dreaded fashion decisions and mishaps.
