Yoga is many things.
It can be a spiritual journey, a process to finding a better you.
To take one step at a time to get to know the person you are inside.
To others it is a physical journey, a way to become more flexible, to get into better shape.
Then for some, yoga is a way to heal emotionally after a long day at work or an hour's peace after a busy week full of life's little or big stresses.
Yoga can be so many things to so many people.
So what is the real yoga? The answer can only come from you.
What is yoga to you? For me yoga started out as a way to get into better shape after having my first child.
After each workout I would feel alive and then sore (sometimes for days).
I started to notice the many different benefits that I received.
One of those benefits was for my posture; my chiropractor once told me that I had the posture of a 60-year-old woman.
Ouch! After that conversation I really started to focus on the exercises that I felt helped me to gain better posture.
Now, if you travel east you might be surprised on what yoga means to them.
I recently took a philosophy class for yoga and it was very interesting to learn more about the eastern way of thinking.
We got into the religion behind yoga and where the yogic thought originated from.
It is very fascinating to learn more about their culture.
Personally, I enjoy the physical aspect of yoga and I love introducing the art of yoga to others.
I do not use it as a form of worship, but I do respect the origins from where it came from and I find value in the possibilities of meditation and what that can bring.
I do believe that self-reflection is vital for you to be able to grown as an individual and I often try to take the time to do that.
When I have a problem, or I am having a rough day I will sit in a relaxing asana pose and start to slow down the mental chaos that is rolling around inside.
Even if I only sit for two minutes I find that I feel better and I am in a better state to continue my day.
So after reading this article I challenge you to find out what yoga is for you.
Look for a class at your local gym or find a class at a nearby studio and experiment.
