How Mirapex Works

• Individuals with Parkinson's disease have a lack of dopamine (a natural chemical found in the brain), resulting in abnormal nerve stimulation, causing a decreased ability to control body movement or functioning. Mirapex is a dopamine agonist, and works by binding to dopamine receptors, stimulating them as the natural dopamine chemical would.

  * Somnolence
  * Hallucinations/Confusion
  * Dizziness
  * Impotence
  * Anorexia

Warnings and Precautions

• Individuals taking Mirapex need to understand the potential for increased drowsiness and sleepiness. Should increased sleepiness or falling asleep during daytime activities occur, notify your doctor immediately. Mirapex can cause an individual to fall asleep without warning. Driving a car, operating machinery or drinking alcohol is not advised when first starting the medication.
  
  

Who Should Not Take Mirapex

• Anyone who has had an allergic reaction to pramipexole or any of the ingredients of Mirapex should not take this drug.

• Individuals need to inform their doctor of their medical history before starting a medication. If you have a history of a sleep disorder, low blood pressure, kidney or liver disorder, are pregnant or nursing or are taking any prescription medication and over-the-counter medications, consult with your doctor.
