The 1966 Chevelle is a muscle car designed by General Motors. It was produced in two-door and four-door trims with the option of a six- or eight-cylinder engine. The most popular Chevelle styles are the Super Sport, the Malibu and the 300. Like cars of every make and model, your Chevelle might occasionally require new windshield trim. Installing trim is a time-consuming and rather challenging task for the novice mechanic. - Ask a friend to help you hold heavy pieces of windshield trim. Having an extra pair of hands can simplify the procedure.
- Park your Chevelle on level ground such as a parking lot or garage. Plan this task for daylight hours or make sure artificial lighting is available. Without adequate lighting, it's easy to install windshield trim improperly.
- Remove the old windshield trim before installing new trim. Before removing the trim, detach the center clip from the windshield. Remove the clip by sliding it off the trim. Press a suction cup against the glass of the windshield as you are removing the trim.
- Press the new trim against the windshield. Press one side of the trim against the bottom of the windshield gasket, near the center. Press firmly on the trim, working from the center to the side.
- Trim comes in a variety of sizes. Be sure to purchase the correct size of trim for your Chevelle. Your local auto parts store should be able to assist you in confirming the proper size of trim for your car.
