- 1). Test your soil. Most soil is either lacking in calcium or contains too much acidic materials. You can buy inexpensive soil testers at most department stores or garden centers.
- 2). Cut back on fertilizer. A dying lilac bush may be caused by over-fertilization. Sometimes you just need to let nature take its course.
- 3). Allow for proper drainage. Drainage is important. Lilacs do not like over watering. Too much rain can "drown" your lilac bush and cause it to die.
