What Does Deca-Durabolin Do In the Body?

    What is Deca-Durabolin?

    • Deca-Durabolin, known scientifically as nandrolone or 19-nortestosterone, is a weak anabolic steroid derived from testosterone. Chemically very similar to testosterone, it lacks a carbon atom at the 19th position (hence 19-nortestosterone). This missing atom results in a chemical that has much weaker androgenic effects than many anabolic steroids. As a result, it is popular with weightlifters and bodybuilders worldwide.

    Deca-Durabolin in Bodybuilding

    • Deca-Durabolin, like many steroids, works to increase muscle mass in the human body. Known as a "slow" muscle builder, it is commonly used in cycles of 8 to 12 weeks and generates dense, even muscle. It does this by acting as a potent mediator for nitrogen retention in in amino acids. Every amino acid is comprised of an amino-group, of which nitrogen is a member. When nitrogen is retained, it causes the amino acid to generate protein more freely. When you work out, your body breaks down and rebuilds muscles according to the amount of viable protein in your body. With your amino acids generating protein at a rapid rate, muscle growth comes much easier.

    Negative Effects of Deca-Durabolin

    • Although Deca-Durabolin has a lower incidence of androgenic side effects, they do still occur. Oily hair, acne, and uneven temperament are commonplace. As with every steroid, research has shown risk of growth disturbances, hypercalcemia, hypogonadism, decreased sexual drive, hair loss, bleeding cysts in the liver and ulcers. Deca-Durabolin has the potential to degrade into estrogen, which can cause gynecomastia, fat storage, changes in temperament and a change in vocal pitch.
