Dummies Guide to Google Analytics
Tutorial of survival for those who fight with Google Analytics
Analytics is a statistics program for the analysis of Internet traffic and is the most powerful and comprehensive I have ever used in terms of web traffic analysis dl, but at the same time can be misleading to less experienced users who are accustomed to using programs statistics easier and more prevalent.
Walking around in various forums and newsgroups, I realized the difficulty of finding many users in Analytics data and reports that are much more accessible in other programs such as;
• Visitors (Referrals)
• Home single origin
• Contacts from search engines
• Keywords used
and more. Here is a micro-Survival Guide to Analytics for the extraction of the above information, plus a few little tips and tricks.
Visitors Origins
To check out where our visitors just use the main menu to the left and go to:
All Reports> Marketing Optimization> Visitor Segment Performance> Referring Source
You will see a list of sites of origin of our members during the period specified on the right (by default the last week, then we see how to change it), grouped by domain.
Single page visitors come from, and more
To view each page of origin simply click on the red bullet next to the domain will open a menu and opening another submenu will have access not only to a single page of source (Source [Medium]) but also to a large number of info additional for the domain on which we clicked:
Contacts from search engines
The menu item that allows us to see the number of contacts from the engines is;
All Reports> Search Engine Marketing> CPC vs Organic Conversion
Go to the table that shows over time set the number of contacts from the engines. The most interesting thing is that you can see a graph showing the trend of the contacts from the engines during the arc of time has elapsed. Just click on the bullet always red next to the engine and select data over time;
Keywords used
If we want to access individual keywords simply click on the [+] next to the single engine and will be shown the search keywords used to come to our site. Each key in turn will be accompanied by a red bullet that will allow you to view graphs of trends for the single key just as you did for engines
Other little tricks and tips on analytics
It 'good to know that you can alter the time frame in which you view the statistics using the appropriate calendar in the lower right. You will be doing this;
1.Click the small calendar icon bordered yellow in the panel "Date Range" and it will open the panel "Custom Date Range '
2.Select the day of departure on the left
3.Select the final day on the right
4.Clicca on "Apply Range>>" at the bottom
At this point, any chart or table you are viewing is reset with the new period in real time.
Another thing I find really useful addition to the graphical display of hits per day as soon as you get into Analytics, is the graph for time of day, in my opinion very useful for my visitors individual habits then the best time to publish new post or perform other operations.
Upon entering click on any of the days on the calendar and chart show the development instead of for days, show the trend for the 24 hours of the day chosen.
